The benefits of working for the ICO

Part-time working and job share opportunities

We realise that many people may want to work on a part-time basis. We are very keen to offer posts on that basis but, to ensure we can continue to provide our current level of service, most part-time opportunities are offered on a job share basis. Where this is not the case details of the part-time hours offered would normally be specified in the job advertisement. We accept that those interested in applying on a part-time basis will not necessarily be able to identify anyone who is willing to work the other half of the job, so we invite applicants to indicate what part-time arrangements are possible for them, to enable us to identify possible job-shares from the applications received.

Learning and development opportunities

ICO are committed to Developing and implementing a training and development programme in line with requirements identified through Appraisal, business planning process and associated strategies.

Contribution to further education courses

The Commissioner will encourage you to further your education by undertaking courses which lead to a recognised educational or professional qualification. Although these will be undertaken in your own time, generally through evening classes, financial (and other) assistance may be given.

Family friendly policies

ICO have a range of family friendly policies which include Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, Adoption Leave, Job Sharing, authorised absence for sick family members, salary sacrifice scheme, flexible working.

Childcare voucher scheme

ICO, in conjunction with Busy Bees has introduced, as part of its family friendly initiative a more flexible way to meet the costs of your childcare, under which part of your wages or salary can be given up or “sacrificed” in exchange for Childcare Vouchers. Within specified limits, these vouchers are non-taxable and exempt from National Insurance contributions and therefore represent a saving for employees who receive them as part of their total employment package. The Childcare Vouchers received are then exchanged, in whole or part, for the childcare services you use.
